Microneedling

Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as ‘collagen induction therapy’, is a game changer for many different skin concerns. It improves the overall skin texture and complexion providing a rejuvenation, can significantly improve the appearance of scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, reduces surface hyperpigmentation, and is minimally invasive given the top layers of the skin are bypassed. Numbing cream is recommended for enhanced comfort.

Microneedling is safe for all skin colours. During the treatment, sterile serums are applied to the skin for enhanced product absorption into the skin through the channels created during the needling treatment.

While your skin will feel and look amazing after even one treatment, a course of treatments is recommended for the best and most lasting results, depending on your skin concerns.

As with every treatment, a consultation is recommended to discuss your unique skin goals to tailor a treatment plan for you.

RF Microneedling

Radio Frequency (RF) Microneedling is an advanced skin treatment that combines the benefits of traditional microneedling with the power of radio frequency (RF) energy. RF Microneedling involves the use of fine needles that create micro-injuries which triggers the skins natural healing process. At the same time, radio frequency energy is delivered through these needles into the deeper layers of the skin. The RF energy heats the tissue, stimulating collagen and elastin production, which helps to tighten and tone the skin from within.

This minimally invasive procedure is designed to rejuvenate the skin, improve texture, and reduce signs of aging by stimulating collagen production and enhancing skin elasticity.

This treatment is made comfortable with numbing cream.

** Before and after 2 treatments of RF Microneedling to target neck laxity

  • Proper skin preparation is key to achieving the best results from your microneedling treatment. Follow these essential steps:

    1. Avoid Retinoids and Exfoliating Products

      • For 3-5 days before treatment, refrain from using products containing retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or any exfoliating acids to prevent skin irritation.

    2. Stay Out of the Sun

      • Protect your skin from direct sun exposure for several days before treatment. Sunburned or tanned skin may increase sensitivity and the risk of complications.

    3. Hydrate Your Skin

      • Keep your skin moisturised leading up to the treatment to ensure it’s well-hydrated and less prone to irritation. Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated.

    4. Avoid Waxing and Hair Removal

      • Skip waxing, threading, or laser hair removal for 1-2 weeks before your treatment to avoid irritation.

    5. Discontinue Blood Thinners

      • If you’re on medications like aspirin or ibuprofen, consult with your medical practitioner. These can increase the risk of bruising or bleeding.

    6. Avoid Chemical Peels and Other Skin Treatments

      • Advise us if you have had any other skin treatments within the last 2 weeks of your microneedling treatment.

    • Avoid Touching Your Face

      • For the first 24 hours, avoid touching your face to reduce the risk of transferring bacteria to your skin and to prevent irritation.

    • Keep Your Skin Hydrated

      • Moisturise your skin regularly with a gentle, hydrating moisturiser. This helps to soothe any dryness and support the skin’s healing process.

    • Avoid Makeup for 24-48 Hours

      • To allow your skin to heal properly, skip makeup for at least 24-48 hours.

    • Use SPF daily

      • After microneedling, your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. Apply SPF 30 or higher daily for at least a weekpost-treatment to protect your skin from sun damage and hyperpigmentation.

    • Avoid Direct Sun Exposure

      • Avoid direct sunlight for at least 1 week after your treatment. If you must go outside, wear a wide-brimmed hat and reapply sunscreen regularly.

    • Avoid Hot Showers and Steamy Environments

      • For 48 hours, avoid hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms to prevent irritation and excessive heat on the treated skin.

    • Do Not Pick or Scratch Treated Skin

      • As your skin heals, it may peel or flake slightly. Do not pick at or scratch your skin, as this can lead to scarring or infection.

    • Avoid Harsh Skincare Products

      • For 5-7 days, avoid using products with retinol, vitamin C, AHAs, or BHAs, as they can irritate your freshly treated skin.

    • Stay Hydrated

      • Drink plenty of water to support your skin’s healing process from the inside out.

    • Sleep on Clean sheets the day of treatment

      • To avoid introducing bacteria to your skin, make sure your pillowcases are clean and soft. Sleep on your back to avoid pressure on treated areas.

  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Microneedling

    1. What is microneedling?

    • Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. This process stimulates collagen production, improving skin texture, tone, and overall appearance.

    2. Is microneedling painful?

    • Most clients report minimal discomfort during microneedling. A numbing cream is applied to the treatment area before the procedure to minimise any pain or discomfort. You may feel a slight tingling or vibration during the treatment.

    3. How long does the microneedling procedure take?

    • The treatment usually takes around 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

    4. What can microneedling treat?

    • Microneedling can improve a variety of skin concerns, including acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin texture, stretch marks, and enlarged pores.

    5. How many sessions will I need?

    • Typically, 3-6 sessions are recommended for optimal results, spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. The exact number of sessions depends on your skin's condition and desired outcome.

    6. How soon will I see results?

    • You may notice some improvements within 1-2 weeks as your skin starts to heal. However, optimal results usually appear after 3-6 months, as collagen production continues to improve over time.

    7. What should I do before my microneedling appointment?

    • Before your appointment, avoid using retinoids, exfoliating acids, and direct sun exposure for about 3-5 days. Cleanse your face thoroughly and hydrate your skin well in the days leading up to the treatment.

    8. What is the recovery time after microneedling?

    • There is minimal downtime, but your skin may appear red and feel similar to a mild sunburn for 24-48 hours. Some mild swelling or bruising may also occur. Most people can return to their regular activities within a day or two.

    9. Are there any side effects?

    • Side effects are rare but may include redness, swelling, mild bruising, or skin dryness. These typically subside within a few days. In rare cases, there could be scarring or infection if aftercare instructions are not followed.

    10. Can I wear makeup after microneedling?

    • It's best to avoid wearing makeup for 24-48 hours after your treatment to allow your skin to heal properly.

    11. Is microneedling safe for all skin types?

    • Yes, microneedling is suitable for most skin types. However, we do not recommend this treatment for individuals with certain skin conditions, such as active acne or eczema.

    12. Can microneedling help with hair loss?

    • Yes! Scalp microneedling can stimulate hair follicles and improve the absorption of hair growth products, helping to promote hair regrowth in cases of thinning hair or androgenic alopecia.

    13. How do I care for my skin after microneedling?

    • After your treatment, avoid sun exposure, apply sunscreen daily, and avoid harsh skincare products for about 5-7 days. Keep your skin moisturized and hydrated to support the healing process.
