Regular waxing for more hair-free days

Waxing removes the entire hair from the follicle. If you have ever decided to take a look at the wax strip after your therapist has used it, you will see that hair that’s been completely pulled out will have a small dark bulb at the end of it.

Not all hairs will contain this bulb though as hairs will often break either just above or below the skin. To help avoid this, it is important to keep moisturising the skin and to keep yourself well hydrated by drinking lots of water.

Waxing at regular intervals will help encourage the hair cycles to sync together and come through at the same time. So when you visit the salon regularly for your waxing appointment, a lot more of your hair is removed at the same time. There is less chance of seeing hair that was just below the skin surface, peek out like weeds just a week after you’ve waxed.

What all this means is

The more regularly you wax, the better and longer lasting your waxing results will be. Keeping a regular waxing schedule throughout the year will give you more hair-free days in all seasons. So it is unwise to disrupt your waxing schedule in winter

  1. If you’re really squeamish about the possible pain, take paracetamol an hour before the appointment and it will minimise any discomfort you may feel during the wax.
  2. Planning a hot date and want to show that new lingerie you’ve just bought? Then make sure that your waxing appointment is a few days before that important day. Waxing can sometimes leave the area red and slightly tender. So, give yourself a few days to recover so that you can truly flaunt the results on the special date.
  3. Gently exfoliate the area before getting waxed. If you are new to waxing down there, initially, the hair may resist being removed. Exfoliating the area can loosen the hairs from the follicles and make them easier to pull out.

  1. Don’t be alarmed if you see small spots of blood while waxing. Every hair follicle is connected to a little blood vessel, so you may see some when the hair is removed especially if this is the first time you are getting a wax. Areas around the underarms or around the labia are particularly sensitive as the pores there are tighter. As a precaution, don’t drink alcohol or take aspirin before the procedure, as they tend to thin the blood.

  1. After a wax, you may feel some tenderness as waxing opens up the pores and makes the area sensitive. Tight-fitting pants such as jeans can irritate the skin and lead to a rash.

The War Against Underarm Fuzz

The skin is the largest organ in the body and it’s main function is to act as a protective barrier from both damage from the environment as well as preventing water loss.
Each time we shave or wax, the barrier is compromised as an average of 36% of our underarm skin is removed in the process.*

Our underarms are one of the most sensitive parts of our body and considering the skin stressing hair removal methods we use, it is no wonder that many women,(and men), report increased sensitivity, inflammation and redness, itchiness and dryness, and generally distressed skin!Whilst you may end up with hair free skin, the unwanted extras can leave you feeling frustrated and confused about how to end that cycle.
